Crafted from figured maple and walnut, this bed frame is designed to highlight the natural character and structure of the wood while maintaining a clean, architectural presence.
The headboard is cut from a single expressive slab of figured maple, where sweeping grain patterns move across the surface in soft, organic waves. Natural voids within the slab were painstakingly cleaned and intentionally left open rather than filled, allowing light and air to move freely through the headboard. This approach preserves the natural history of the wood while giving the piece a sculptural quality.
To stabilize the slab while complementing its movement, custom walnut structural inlays intersect across the headboard in a deliberate geometric arrangement. These inlays reinforce areas of natural cracking while introducing a visual contrast between the dark walnut and the luminous maple. Two walnut bowtie inlays further secure the slab and serve as a subtle reference to traditional woodworking techniques.
The frame itself is supported by solid walnut legs, grounding the lighter maple with a deeper tone and reinforcing the relationship between the two species.
Balancing natural form with careful craftsmanship, this piece reflects Wabi-Lynn’s philosophy of working with the character of the wood rather than against it, allowing each natural feature to become part of the design.
