Coffe Table No.1 | Sweet Gum

Coffee Table No.1 is crafted from a single slab of sweet gum, selected for its expressive grain movement and dramatic natural contours. The wood reveals warm golden tones accented by darker mineral streaking and scattered knots that trace the tree’s natural growth. These markings travel fluidly across the surface, giving the table a sense of motion while preserving the organic character of the living tree it once was.

One end of the piece transitions into a waterfall leg, where the grain flows continuously from the tabletop down to the floor. At this transition, a prominent knot was intentionally positioned within the waterfall joint, allowing one of the tree’s most distinctive features to carry through the corner of the piece. This deliberate placement reflects a core aspect of the Wabi-Lynn design philosophy: highlighting the natural events within the wood rather than avoiding them.

Opposite the waterfall, a minimalist steel support provides structural balance and visual contrast, allowing the sculptural slab to remain the focal point. The live edge has been carefully refined to preserve its natural form while offering a smooth, tactile finish.
